Mr. Ventura; Now, with
all you have to do being governor, I'd like to burden you with
another problem. Could you PLEASE, see if you could get the Federal
Government off their duffs and help to get our POW/MIA's from
the Viet Nam era back home where they belong? I was aboard the
Aircraft Carrier USS Hornet during the time when we lost one of
our planes to the Viet Cong, the pilot of which was from Pipestone,
MN. William S. Forman. I've often talked to his mother, Courtenay,
and after talking to her, my heart really goes out to her and
the rest of the family. Another family, the Ryders, John and Gwen,
lost their son John who was a FAC (forward air controller) in
'Nam. They lived about 2 miles North of Chisholm, MN. which is
where I live. They worked their butts off getting as high in Amateur
Radio as possible in a very short time just to contact people
around the world to get any information that they possibly could
about their son. Nada!!! Not a word was found out. Now both of
them passed away, never knowing what ever became of their son.
There are so many tragic events such as this and it should not
be quelled. I'm extending an invitation to visit my POW/MIA web
site at:
http://www.uslink.net/~cruzer/powmia.html
and read for yourself the account of
the event that happened aboard the Hornet. On February 1st, tho,
my web site and many others will be down for a 24 hour period
due to a "Blackout Day" in memory of all of those who served and
were forgotten. Some of the things that happened over there just
get a person to grind his teeth to powder. If you really want
to read a good book, get a copy of "Kiss The Boys Goodbye". If
you can't find one, let me know and I'll send you mine. It really
opens a persons eyes. If you do visit the site, please sign the
guestbook and let me know what you think of it and the situation.
Please read the Synopsis. The upper part is what was released
by the Government and down lower is a little exerpt from a Chief
Petty Officer that got the 'facts' from other Chiefs and Officers
at the time it happened. If anyone can knock some sense into the
"heads of our Federal Gov't' I know you can........(quite literally?).
It's bad enough for the people who served and came home to find
out that the people they were fighting for, the Vietnamese, had
preference when it came to jobs, didn't have to pay taxes for
5 years, didn't have to fight for the country they decided to
move into, and the ex-serviceman was labled "baby killer"!!! It's
easy to see why there were so many that became disillusioned and
unstable. Then you look at the people that never came back and
apparently were forgotten by their country. Sad situation, isn't
it? Sincerely, Robert J. Cruze Sr.
